A common washer machine repair that most repair services come in contact with is a machine that won’t fill. While this can be a complicated repair, most times it isn’t. When it isn’t, many times you can do the repair at your home without the assistance of a professional. This will not only save you money, but also time because you won’t have to wait for the serviceman to get to your home.
The first thing to test when your washer won’t fill is the water lines. To test these you will want to shut the faucets off behind the washing machine and then disconnect the two hoses from the back of the washer. Hold the end of the hoses into the sink or in a bucket if they can’t reach the sink and turn the faucet back on. Water should be coming out of the hoses now. If no water is coming out then you don’t need to do any washer machine repair because the problem is with your water line. Most times it is just a matter of turning another valve that was shut off for one reason or another that you forgot about, or it could be something more serious, but you will need to call in a plumber if you can’t locate the problem.
Another problem that will not require a washer machine repair is the outlet. Try unplugging the washer and plugging in any other appliance. If the other appliance works, then you know that the outlet isn’t the problem. However, if it doesn’t work, then you have a problem with power getting to your washer machine. Check the fuse box or circuit breaker to make sure you didn’t trip the circuit or blow a fuse. If those aren’t the problem, then you may need an electrician.
Those are your ‘non-washer’ related repairs. But dealing with the washer, you will want to try and wiggle your push-pull switch and try to fill the washer again. Sometimes this timer gets old and the connections get worn out. If it works after wiggling it, you will want to replace the timer push-pull switch. After the timer, the water level and water temperature switches are next. These are hard to test but could prevent the water from entering the tub.
Any of these problems can be fixed and part can be replaced on your own at home. But if you are unsure or nervous about performing the washer machine repair on your own just call a service professional.
