Refrigerator Repair: What You Should Know

Many people may find that if their refrigerator is acting up, that they are quickly in somewhat of a panic because they do not know how to perform refrigerator repair.  The good news is that the problem could be small and simple and there may be a few parts you can replace yourself that have a tendency to go bad from time to time.

You will know if there is a power problem, meaning that for some reason power is not reaching the unit, if the refrigerator is not running at all and the light is not working.  This can be any number of things from blown fuses, a tripped circuit, or maybe even a damaged power cord or outlet.

Sometimes the most basic refrigerator repair can be as simple as changing the temperature setting.  Often times, however, things can become a little more complicated.  If the refrigerator is not running but the light is, then you can attempt to clean the condenser coils.  This can be a simple fix but if it does not help then the best thing to do is to see if you have a condenser problem by unplugging the refrigerator and then plugging it back in two hours later.  If the refrigerator is functional again then you may have a compressor problem, which is causing overheating, so it is best not to be fooled into thinking that everything is okay.

If the refrigerator works but it does not seem to keep food cold enough then the easiest and first step that you will want to take is to check the temperature setting.  You also need to ensure that there is enough space for airflow both outside and inside of the refrigerator.  It would be a good idea to look for anything that is in the way of vents as well.  Other items to check for problems would be door seals or even a faulty door, a clogged drain tube, or coolant leak.

Another common problem with refrigerators is that they will not stop running.  These are also very simple that fixes that should not create panic in your mind.  Again, cleaning the condenser coils, testing the door switch and checking the door seals will most likely fix this problem.
